Oil-marketing firm GOIL PLC has cautioned the public against any video announcing a government-backed gold project or a customer reward scheme.
A video circulating on social media depicts the Managing Director of GOIL, Edward Abambire Bawa, announcing such a scheme.
But the company insists that the video “is fake, deceitful, and clearly generated using artificial intelligence (AI) for fraudulent purposes”.
A public disclaimer on Wednesday said the company is not undertaking and has not undertaken any gold-related venture, government-backed project nor customer reward scheme.
“We urge the public to exercise utmost caution and disregard this concocted material entirely.”
The state-run OMC says it is collaborating closely with relevant security and cybercrime authorities to track down and prosecute the perpetrators “to the fullest extent of the law”.
“GOIL remains a responsible and transparent corporate institution committed to ethical business practices and protecting the interest of its valued customers and stakeholders.”
GOIL is urging all to visit its official website for authentic and verified information on products, services and corporate announcements.
