Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama on Friday visited Makola Market to engage traders as part of efforts to promote public awareness and appreciation of the national currency.
Joined by Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni and other central bank staff, Asiama discussed traders’ activities and wellbeing while emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the cedi.
He urged the public to handle banknotes responsibly, advising: “Do not squeeze the cedi, do not crumple the cedi, do not write on it, and always keep your money in a purse, wallet or aprons.”

The outreach forms part of the Cedi@60 educational campaign, aimed at boosting public confidence in Ghana’s currency under the theme, “Our Money, Our Heritage.”
