President John Dramani Mahama has called for stronger cooperation between Ghana and Canada, emphasising the need for countries committed to multilateralism and a rules-based international order to work more closely together.
The President made the call during a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Mark Carney, in Antigua and Barbuda, on the sidelines of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2026).
The meeting formed part of several bilateral engagements President Mahama is holding with Prime Ministers and other Heads of Government from Commonwealth member countries attending the ongoing summit.
Discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and Canada, as well as exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
For his part, Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed Canada’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Ghana in key sectors, including energy, critical minerals, trade and development.
The engagement underscores the commitment of both countries to strengthening international partnerships, promoting economic cooperation and advancing shared interests within the Commonwealth and the wider international community.
