The Ghana Police Service has commissioned three new Community Police Posts and received 57 motorbikes to strengthen security operations across the northern border regions under the EU-funded Peace Protect Project.
The facilities, constructed in partnership with COGINTA Ghana, are located in the Northern, Upper East, North-East and Savannah Regions. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance policing, improve response times and reinforce safety in communities vulnerable to cross-border criminal activities.
At a brief ceremony at the Northern Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale, the Director General of the National Patrol Department, COP Mohammed Fuseini Suraj, received 57 Honda and Yamaha motorbikes on behalf of Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno. Officials say the motorbikes will improve patrol coverage, mobility and crime-prevention operations in identified hotspot areas.
COGINTA Country Director Rev. Dr. Clement Aapenguo reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting national security structures, noting that the Peace Protect Project has already delivered seven Community Police Posts, three of which were formally commissioned this week. He added that 184 community police personnel have been trained, while 75 motorbikes have been supplied to enhance operational efficiency across border communities.
COP Suraj expressed gratitude for the support and directed district commanders to ensure fair distribution of the new motorbikes, maintain them properly and provide periodic usage reports. He emphasized that the equipment would significantly improve visibility, strengthen community engagement and bolster preventive policing.
Among the newly inaugurated posts are the Gbingbani Community Police Post in the North-East Region and the Dakurupe Community Police Post in the Savannah Region. Local authorities and traditional leaders joined the ceremonies, underscoring community backing for improved security infrastructure.
