The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that the trial of former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta and seven others including two former Commissioners-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) is set to commence today, Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The trial will be heard at an Accra Criminal Court.
The eight persons have been slapped with a total of 78 charges of corruption and corruption-related offences regarding the government’s engagement with Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
Mr Ofori-Atta faces 28 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences including willfully causing financial loss to the state.
The accused with the highest charges is former Commissioner-General Emmanuel Kofi Nti, who has been slapped with 39 charges.
The rest are another former Commissioner-General Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, 10 counts, former Commissioner of Customs Kwadwo Damoah, who is currently the MP for Jaman South, 8, another former Customs Commissioner Dr Isaac Crentsil, 19, and Ernest Akore, a former advisor at the Ministry of Finance, 12.
Chief Executive of SML Evans Adusei and the company itself have also been charged with 19 and 18 counts respectively.
According to the OSP, a total of GH¢125 million is expected to be recovered from these eight persons and company standing trial.
