The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licences of 50 large-scale mining companies over regulatory breaches, as part of efforts to sanitise the mining sector.
The decision follows a rigorous review of large-scale mining operations by a special committee established at the direction of the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. Preliminary findings indicate that some companies are holding mining leases without valid permits from the Environmental Protection Authority or the Water Resources Commission.
The Ministry said the move forms part of a broader, multi-pronged strategy to address illegalities and promote safe, responsible mining practices across the country.
A final list of the affected companies will be announced in due course as the review process continues. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all mining activities comply with established laws, protocols and environmental standards.
