Chart-topping track of hip-life musician Kofi Kinaata, ‘Things Fall Apart’, is ingraining its relevance in the Ghanaian society as it pops up in recently written examinations of Ghana’s premier university – the University of Ghana, Legon.
Students of the University under the Department for the Study of Religions were faced with a question on the song in their end of first semester examinations in the 2019/2020 academic year.
In Section B of their ‘Religions in Ghana’ paper, the students were asked to examine the song in relation to social change.
This is how the question was couched: “In relation to social change, examine Kofi Kinaata’s questioning of the religious life of the contemporary Ghanaian in his song ‘Things Fall Apart’.”

Kofi Kinaata’s “Things Fall Apart” is a song which raises some thought-provoking questions about the lifestyle of Christians, some of whom are seen punctual at church only to switch camp and be seen at clubs, drinking pubs among others.
