Police in the Western North Region have arrested two members of staff of Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School over the alleged theft of food items meant for students.
The suspects, identified as Bennedicta Nyamadi, a matron, and Rahel Kyeremateng, a cook, were arrested on December 23, 2025, by the Western North Regional Police Command. The arrests followed intelligence received by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive on the night of December 22.
Acting on the tip-off, a joint team comprising police officers, the area’s Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive conducted an operation at the residence of Rahel Kyeremateng at Sefwi Atronsu. A search of the premises led to the retrieval of large quantities of food items suspected to have been stolen from the school’s food store.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects conspired to steal the items and stored them at the cook’s residence with the intention of selling them later.
Items retrieved included 21 bags of rice (50kg each), sacks of gari, maize and millet, bags of sugar and beans, cooking oil, cartons of milk, tins of tomato paste and canned mackerel. The total value of the items is yet to be established.

During interrogation, Rahel Kyeremateng allegedly identified Bennedicta Nyamadi as the source of the items, leading to her arrest at the school premises.
Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest an assistant matron, Hannah Dufie, who is reported to be at large and suspected to have participated in the crime.
