The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned the alleged theft of food supplies meant for students of Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region, following the arrest of two staff members.
In a statement issued on December 26, 2025, GES said it had received reports of the arrest of a matron, Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyereamteng, in connection with the alleged misconduct. The Service described the allegations as deeply troubling, stressing that it does not tolerate abuse of office or any actions that undermine the welfare and nutrition of students.
GES noted that the alleged offence, if established, would be inconsistent with its ethical standards, professional conduct and core values. The matter is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service.
Management said it is fully cooperating with investigators and will support all relevant state institutions to ensure due process is followed. It also assured parents, guardians and the public that monitoring systems exist to safeguard public resources within schools.
GES added that appropriate sanctions would be applied in line with its Code of Conduct and Ghanaian law where wrongdoing is confirmed.
