President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to make his second mandate count by entrenching economic and governance reforms that, he says, no future administration will be able to reverse.
Speaking at the Annual New Year School and Conference, President Mahama said the renewed mandate granted to him by Ghanaians came with a responsibility to deliver lasting national progress. He told participants that his administration was determined to raise standards of governance and economic management to secure long-term stability and prosperity.
“In a region where democracy is backsliding, we must demonstrate that democracy works,” the President said, stressing the need for citizens to retain confidence in their leaders and democratic institutions. He noted that effective leadership must translate into tangible opportunities and improved livelihoods for the people.
President Mahama also assured the country that his government would maintain fiscal discipline and prudent economic management, including during the 2028 election year. He said there would be no relaxation of measures aimed at safeguarding macroeconomic stability, regardless of political pressures.
The President indicated that his address would be anchored on five key pillars guiding the administration’s development agenda and reflecting the theme of the conference.
The Annual New Year School and Conference brings together policymakers, academics, civil society actors and political leaders to reflect on national challenges and chart policy directions for the year ahead.
