Ghana has received a significant boost on the continental stage, with all West African leaders endorsing the country’s candidate as the next African Union (AU) chairperson in 2027, Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced.
Speaking on the development, Ablakwa described the endorsement as “timely and fortuitous,” noting that it positions Ghana to prepare thoroughly for the responsibilities of the AU chairmanship.
The minister added that the incoming chairperson looks forward to reports and strategic input from local stakeholders to “hit the ground running” in 2027.
Ablakwa highlighted the role of Hon. John Alan Kyerematen and his team, praising the organisation he has assembled as “very reputable” and essential to Ghana’s preparations.
The minister confirmed that Kyerematen will hold a “special place” in AU planning due to his contributions, signalling close collaboration as the country prepares to assume one of Africa’s most influential leadership positions.
