Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have parted ways with Manager Xabi Alonso by mutual agreement.
“Xabi Alonso will always carry the affection and admiration of all Madridistas because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club,” the club said on Monday, January 12.
“Real Madrid will always be his home.”
The decision comes barely 24 hours after Madrid were beaten 3-2 by rivals FC Barcelona in the Supercopa played in Saudi Arabia.
Alonso had to leave with his coaching staff.
“We would like to thank Xabi Alonso and all his coaching staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this time, and wish them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.”
The former Liverpool midfielder joined Madrid after three seasons with Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Castilla coach Alvaro Arbeloa has been appointed to take charge of the team for the immediate future assignments.
