The Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, emphasising collaboration between the Judiciary and the Executive branch.
Justice Baffoe Bonnie said the visit was intended to formally express the Judiciary’s gratitude for the Ministry of Finance’s continued support. During the meeting, he highlighted court congestion as a major barrier to effective justice delivery and noted that several interventions are being developed to address the challenge.
The Chief Justice also raised concerns about working conditions within the Judiciary, urging sustained institutional support to enhance efficiency and overall performance across the justice system.
Responding, Dr. Forson reaffirmed the Finance Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice to address pressing challenges in the courts. He revealed that measures under consideration include allowing the Judiciary to fully utilise its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to meet urgent operational needs, a move expected to boost efficiency and improve service delivery.
The meeting was attended by Supreme Court Judge Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Acting Director of the Ghana School of Law Prof. Raymond Atuguba, Judicial Secretary Ahmed Musah, and the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine.
The engagement signals growing coordination between Ghana’s financial and judicial institutions as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s justice delivery system.
