Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced the signing of a US$12.83 million grant agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund feasibility studies for priority infrastructure projects under the government’s Big Push programme.

Writing earlier on Tuesday, Dr Forson said the agreement would support preparatory work for a proposed interchange at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, as well as the redevelopment of key markets across the country. The markets include Agbogbloshie in Accra, Techiman in the Bono East Region, Sekondi in the Western Region, and Mankessim in the Central Region.

The funding will also cover feasibility studies for the establishment of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones in the Afram Plains, Nsawam and Builsa.

According to Dr Forson, the grant will finance detailed project designs, cost estimates, and environmental and social impact assessments to ensure the initiatives are fully prepared for construction. He said the studies are intended to remove bottlenecks that often delay large-scale public infrastructure projects.

Dr Forson expressed appreciation to the African Development Bank and its Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, for what he described as strong partnership and continued support. He said the government’s objective is to complete the studies early enough to allow construction to begin in the near term, accelerating economic growth and job creation.
