Parliamentary Candidate-elect of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for next month’s by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed has denied inducing voters in last Saturday’s primaries.
Appearing before a three-member committee probing the allegations of vote buying and voter inducement during the primaries, Baba Jamal said he reiterated his innocence to the committee.
“I used the opportunity to reiterate my innocence and firmly deny any attempt on my part to induce voters,” he stated after meeting the committee.
He insinuated that he does not fear loss as he had contested the late Member of Parliament twice and lost.
“In each instance I humbly accepted the outcome in the spirit of party unity and cohesion,” he revealed in a statement he issued on Monday, February 9.
“In fact, during the last primaries leading up to the 2024 elections, I secured 309 votes against the winner’s 452.”
Baba Jamal, therefore, insisted that his growing popularity in the constituency is as a result of the many initiatives he has undertaken there coupled with his integrity and “our shared commitment to securing better representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament”.
He thanked the committee and delegates for reposing confidence in him.
“I remain driven by our collective desire to bring meaningful development to the constituency and improve the lives of our people.”
