The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Abdulai Ayariga, says two of the country’s 10 youth resource centres are expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026, with renewed focus on the long-neglected Azumah Nelson Sports Complex.
Speaking on the status of ongoing projects, Ayariga said work at the iconic Accra-based sports complex is gaining momentum following a fresh capital injection from the Ministry of Finance. He disclosed that the administration block is nearing completion, while major rehabilitation works on the pitch are scheduled to begin next month.
“We are hopeful the contractor will resume work as soon as possible, potentially before the end of this month,” Ayariga said, adding that the goal is to complete the entire sports complex before the close of the year.
He credited President John Dramani Mahama for providing the financial backing needed to restart stalled projects, describing the president as deeply committed to completing the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex and expanding youth infrastructure nationwide.
Ayariga noted that eight youth resource centres across the country are currently at various stages of completion. The NYA, he said, is targeting the completion of at least two centres within the year, including the sports complex and one other facility in a different region.
“If we are able to go beyond two, we would be happy to do so,” he said, stressing that the progress made so far would not have been possible without government support.
