The Berekum Divisional Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, David Frimpong, for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum Municipality.
An intelligence-led operation led officers to Frimpong’s residence, a semi-completed house, where he attempted to flee upon seeing police. A subsequent search uncovered 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 individual wraps, and three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Authorities also seized a container of ‘groundnut cake’ toffee believed to be mixed with the narcotics, six pairs of scissors, 14 packs of cigarettes, and 190 wrapping papers. All items have been retained for forensic and evidential examination.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Frimpong is a known dealer and distributor of narcotic drugs in Berekum and surrounding areas.
He is currently in police custody while authorities continue their investigations, with preparations underway to prosecute him under Ghanaian law.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, assured the public that the police remain committed to tackling narcotic-related offences and safeguarding communities from illicit drug activities.
The police urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to aid in law enforcement efforts.
