Migration Web Africa urges de-escalation in Middle East tensions to protect migrants

Migration Web Africa has issued an urgent call for de-escalation in the tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The organization warned that continued hostilities could severely worsen humanitarian conditions across the Middle East and expose vulnerable migrant populations to heightened insecurity.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, March 10, Migration Web Africa highlighted that the ongoing exchange of military actions and retaliatory strikes pose a significant threat to regional stability.

The organization noted that these events have already resulted in loss of life and widespread humanitarian concern.

It strongly urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and actively pursue diplomatic engagement to peacefully resolve the crisis.

“Conflicts of this nature often expose migrant communities to heightened vulnerabilities,” stated Executive Director of Migration Web Africa Dr Hayford Yeboah.

“Governments and international institutions must ensure that the protection of migrants and civilians remains central to humanitarian responses.”

The organization expressed particular concern for migrants and foreign workers residing and working in the Middle East.

It pointed out that millions of migrant workers, many originating from African and Asian countries, face elevated risks during armed conflicts.

These risks include limited access to protection mechanisms, evacuation support, and essential services.

Migration Web Africa cautioned that any further escalation could trigger broader displacement, placing additional pressure on neighboring countries that are already hosting significant refugee populations.

In response to the critical situation, Migration Web Africa has called upon all parties to de-escalate hostilities and prioritize diplomacy, respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians, ensure the safety and dignity of migrants and displaced persons, facilitate humanitarian access and evacuation pathways, and strengthen international cooperation to address the humanitarian and migration impacts of the crisis.

The organization reiterated its belief that diplomacy and dialogue are the most sustainable pathways toward achieving lasting stability and human security.
