Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has assured that the anti-gay bill will be passed into law in the next meeting of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
He said he has already received assurances from the President, John Dramami Mahama, that when the bill is passed into law, he will assent to it without hesitation.
Speaking at the Kasoa Traditional Leaders and Stakeholders Forum on Saturday, April 11, Mr Bagbin said the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has gone through all the processes to get it passed.
“It has gone through all the stages and the next meeting of Parliament will pass that bill into law,” he said.
“So don’t listen to people who don’t know what is in Parliament.”
The Bill, which was a trending issue in the 2024 electioneering campaign, was not assented to by then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when it was passed into law.
This led to the expiration of the Bill for which a new one has been laid.
