The government has advised Ghanaian nationals to exercise extreme caution in their travel plans to South Africa.
It further warns that non-essential travels should be avoided until further notice.
This follows recent xenophobic attacks targeted at Africans by groups presenting themselves as anti-immigrant vigilantes in South Africa.
Some Ghanaians have become victims of these attacks with government evacuating some nationals from the country.
“Ghanaian nationals in the country are urged to maintain regular contact with the Ghana High Commission for consular services,” a travel advisory issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, June 1 said.
It further assured that government will continue to collaborate with the relevant authorities of South Africa “to facilitate the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals to ensure their safety”.
It also called on authorities to provide adequate security for targeted groups of Africans within South African territory and take measures to enforce law and order in the spirit of genuine Pan-Africanism and African integration.
Government reiterated its commitment to prioritising the welfare of Ghanaian nationals home and abroad.
