President John Dramani Mahama has directed a reduction in the price of diesel by GH¢2.00 per litre, effective Tuesday, August 4, 2026, according to a statement from the Presidency.
The directive, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, said the reduction follows a decision by Cabinet and builds on a similar intervention implemented in April 2026.
The regulatory margin on diesel will be cut for one month.
The statement said the move is aimed at cushioning consumers, preventing hikes in transport fares, containing inflationary pressures, and mitigating the pass-through effect of rising fuel prices on the cost of living.
The reduced price takes effect from Tuesday and will remain in force for one month, unless reviewed earlier by Government.
The Presidency said Government will continue monitoring developments on the international energy market and will take further policy measures where necessary “to protect the interests of the Ghanaian people and sustain economic recovery.”
