The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has pointed to a major fault as the cause of Thursday dawn’s power outage in some parts of the country.
“The fault resulted in the automatic tripping of the Akosombo generating units and some thermal generating plants as part of the system’s protection mechanisms to safeguard the integrity and stability of the National Interconnected Transmission System,” the nation’s power-producing company explained.
It further observed that the fault resulted in the loss of power supply to some parts of the country.
But it said engineers immediately set to work in close coordination with other power sector agencies to isolate the affected transmission line at the same time commencing the safe and systematic restoration of the power system.
“Power supply has already been restored to some affected areas, and restoration efforts are progressing steadily to ensure that supply is restored to all remaining affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.”
GRIDCo assured the public that all technical teams have been fully mobilised, working with urgency to achieve a complete restoration of the power system.
