I did not write, authorise, or circulate the document – Patricia Appiagyei denies GH¢70,000 memo

Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa Constituency Patricia Appiagyei has issued a strongly worded statement denying any involvement in a memorandum circulating in the media that alleges she received and returned an amount of GH¢70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

In a statement dated September 4, Madam Appiagyei said the document, purportedly addressed to Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was fabricated.

“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” she stated.

The MP categorically denied receiving GH¢70,000 or any other sum from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees, or in relation to her duties as a member of the Appointments Committee.

“As I received no such payment, I had no occasion to return any such payment, contrary to what the fake document suggests,” she said, adding that she has “at all times discharged” her duties on the Committee, including in the recent vetting, with integrity.

Explaining the delay in her response, Madam Appiagyei said she was attending the funeral of a friend when the story first broke.

She said that upon becoming aware of the “fake news” reportedly originating from her office, she had assumed a “FAKE” stamp she authorised was sufficient to address it, until the document gained wider traction in the media.

She described the matter as serious, disclosing that she is taking legal advice on next steps once the source of the document is established and reserving her right to act against anyone found responsible for fabricating or knowingly circulating it.

The former Kumasi mayor further suggested the document was the work of “faceless individuals” seeking to “sow seeds of discord” within the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary caucus, an effort she said would fail.

She assured party members and the public that the Caucus remains united behind flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 election.
