A 52-year-old South African national has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after arriving on a flight from Accra, Ghana, with police intercepting him on suspicion of drug trafficking.
According to a police statement, the suspect was apprehended at the airport on Sunday, September 20, 2026, shortly after his arrival.
A search of his luggage led officers to uncover bullet-like objects and blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin.
The latest arrest brings to three the total number of suspected drug mules arrested at the port of entry over the past three weeks.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court later this week to face drug trafficking-related charges.
In the statement, the South African Police Service said it remains committed to intensifying efforts to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates through ongoing intelligence-led and targeted operations.
