Thousands of women have staged a march over the recent arrests of women in Ghana for criticism of the government.
The march ended up with a petition to the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
The women are unhappy about the seeming victimisation of women as regards free speech.
The protesters were kicked into their action by the latest arrest of a mother of three in Techiman, Salomey Awiti Baffoh, for her charged complicity in threatening messages spread on Tik Tok by one Ghana Jollof.
According to the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the nursing officer received remittances from Ghana Jollof to spread her Tik Tok posts.
One of the protesters, Akosua Manu, who is also an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said there are more grievous and serious matters that need attention than the arrest of the Techiman-based mother.
“There are grievous crimes and serious issues we should pay attention to,” she said.
“For example, this drug issue, by now the President should have addressed the nation on the matter because some members of his government were fingered in the issue but we have rather singled out women like Ghana Jollof.”
