The government through the Ministry of Interior has imposed a curfew on Hamile and its environs in Lambussie District in the Upper West Region with immediate effect.
This follows violent demonstrations in the township on Tuesday, November 3 over the transportation of explosives by security officers.
A mission to carry dynamite across the town failed at it reportedly exploded, killing two persons including an officer with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
This led to the demonstration by the townsfolk, who later resorted to violence, resulting in the shooting of three.
Some security personnel have also been wounded in the ensuing scuffle.
The curfew, from 6:00pm to 5:00am, has, therefore, ordered all to refrain from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.
“Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”
In a statement by the Interior Minister, announcing the curfew, government urged “chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area”.
