By Benjamin Makafui Attipoe, Denu-Tokor

The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the Volta Region, Nicholas K. Worclachie, has outdoored his vision and strategies to the thirty-nine (39) Assembly Members heading the 39 Electoral Areas of the Municipality at a maiden engagement held at the residency at Denu-Tokor.

The meeting dubbed, ‘KSMA Mission and Vision in Focus – Strategic Approaches With Assembly Members’, took the participants through some nine (9) thematic areas the new MCE intends to employ in collaboration with the Assembly Members to realize the mission and vision for the Ketu South Municipality.

Worclachie, who was the main resource person at the meeting, took the Assembly Members through topics such as Resource Based View to Local Governance, the Body Corporate Value of the Assembly Concept, Project Oriented Approach (POA) and the Formation of Supplementary Sub-Committees which would include the Business Development Sub-Committee as well as the effective operation of a Disaster Management Fund.

The others were Strategies for Internally Generated Fund (IGF) as well as Capacity Building – Institute of Local Government Studies Satellite Campus in Ketu South.

The rest were Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Output for Quarterly Performance or Appraisal, Submission of Curriculum Vitaes for Sub-Committees as well as the Welfare of Assembly Members which has always been a big issue for the head of these Electoral Areas in various districts and municipalities.

The engagement which was very interactive, was attended by some party officials as well as a cross-section of the media. Also present at the meeting was the former MCE for the area, Richard Amable.

The Assembly Members and the Journalists present at the event, used the opportunity not only to ask a number of questions but also seek clarifications on the policy directions the MCE intends to use to improve the lot of the people of Ketu South in the coming years.

Speaking to the media in interview after the programme, Nicholas Worclachie noted that his intended policy direction for Ketu South are resource-based approach strategies since every district or municipality has its own naturally endowed resources, adding that those of Ketu South run wide and deep.

According to him, while following and vigorously implementing his path of direction for the municipality, he would harness all human, material and other resources including those of the Assembly Members for the betterment of the municipality and its people.

The MCE said as part of efforts to ensure that he is on course with regards to delivering on his mandate to the people, he would employ what he described as a 360 degree evaluation and assessment policy where the Assembly Members, the media and other stakeholders would evaluate his performance and for that matter the Assembly on quarterly basis for the needed feedback which would inform the next move.

Worclachie, said one of the issues on the hearts of his people is the dredging of the lagoon and the sea defense wall to protect the coastal communities that have been under siege from the Atlantic Ocean for some years now.

One of the government appointees to the Assembly, Hon. Edward Gbeti shared his expectation with our news team. He described the MCE’s engagement with them as fruitful, saying the four (4) M’s concept of Material, Manpower, Monetary and Machinery that Hon Worclachie shared with them, was not only relevant but also timely.

He was hopeful that the MCE would use his good offices to address some of the pressing issues affecting the residents of Ketu South.

According to Gbeti, the municipality is strategically placed, adding that one of the issues the MCE should also concern himself with is how to increase the number of Health Centres in the municipality to take care of the increasing population of the municipality.
