Pressure group OccupyGhana is calling on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to conduct independent investigations into the “damning” allegations of bribery against some members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
It said if the allegations are found to be false, “the harshest of parliamentary and possibly criminal sanctions” must be meted out to the accusers.
“The present allegations of bribery are grave and sobering and impinge on the integrity not only of Parliament but also of the image of the Ghanaian Republic,” OccupyGhana said in a statement released on Tuesday, January 31.
“These allegations must not be glossed over and brushed under the carpet by the usually lackadaisical or complicit workings of partisan politics.”
The allegations of bribery was cranked up by Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Constituency Mahama Ayariga after citing Asawase MP Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed as giving him money purportedly from Boakye Agyarko, the newly appointed Minister of Energy.
“We respectfully call on the Police CID to immediately empanel a team to commence investigations and establish the truth, or the lack thereof, in any part of the nation-wrecking allegations,” OccupyGhana demanded.
