President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation Ben Nunoo-Mensah has beaten Ghana Olympic Committee President Professor Francis Dodoo in elections held on Wednesday, March 15.
The elections were part of the 2017 Congress ongoing at the Swiss Spirit Hotels and Suites Alisa in Accra.
Mr Nunoo-Mensah polled 33 votes to beat the two-time president, who polled 28 votes.
Elections were also conducted for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Presidents for the Committee as well as for the General Secretary.
Paul Atchoe beat Deborah Kubadzi to be the First Vice president while Michael Nunoo beat Emmanuel Tetteh to be the Second Vice President.
The Third Vice President position was won by Evans Yeboah, who polled 44 votes to beat George Lamptey, who polled 17 votes.
General Secretary Richard Akpokavie beat Mohammed Sahnoon by 36 to 26 votes to retain his position while his assistant, Richmond Quarcoo, also retained his position.
Votes for Treasurer were initially annulled after a suspected case of overvoting but the votes were counted in favour of Frederick Lartey Otu, who was contesting with Christopher Esirifi.
The Assistant Treasurer position was won by Theophilus Mensah.
Leanier Addy, Albert Frimpong, Mawuko Afadgenu, Herbert Mensah and Isaac Duah were the five Olympic Sports members elected to join the Committee.
Emmanuel Nii Quaye was elected as the Non-Olympic Sport representative while Joseph Kwasi Okah was elected unopposed as the representative of the National Federation Affiliated to the Committee.
Three other members – Melvin Brown, George Owusu Ansah and Jerry Amert Shaib – were also elected to join the Committee.
“We will let the current board run their programme,” the newly elected president, Mr Nunoo-Mensah, assured, stating that by the end of the month an official handing-over will be held for the new team to start work.
He announced that a transition team will be put in place for a smooth transition.
“I promise you that we will work as a team and we will not disappoint you.”
