– 10,000 Youth-Owned Businesses To Be Created Annually

By Prince Ahenkorah

President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has officially unveiled the groundbreaking Adwumawura policy, with the ambitious goal of establishing 10,000 thriving businesses led by Ghanaian youths every year.
Addressing the audience at the awe-inspiring launch event which took place on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the prestigious Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, the President emphasized that the initiative aims to empower the younger generation to innovate, create, and excel in the world of business.
Emphasizing his unwavering support for the dreams and aspirations of Ghanaian youth, President Mahama emphasized his administration’s eagerness to assist in the establishment of new ventures.
This visionary policy is not merely a token gesture but a steadfast declaration of the government’s faith in the potential of Ghanaian youth.
President Mahama underscored that the Adwumawura program is designed to combat unemployment among the youth, nurture budding enterprises, and enhance the growth of existing businesses.
Central to the program’s objectives is the creation of 10,000 new youth enterprises annually, supported by comprehensive training in business creation and management, access to financial resources, as well as mentoring and coaching to ensure sustained growth.
President Mahama reassured attendees that the Adwumawura initiative is well-funded through allocations from the 2025 budget, with meticulous selection criteria focused on scalability, sustainability, and job creation prospects.
With inclusivity in mind, President Mahama revealed that a significant portion of opportunities under the Adwumawura policy will be reserved for marginalized groups in society, such as individuals with disabilities, the unemployed, underemployed individuals, young women, and small-scale miners.
Asserting that the program embodies a clear pathway for ambitious youth to transition from being employees to employers, President Mahama stressed the importance of seizing this opportunity for business growth and development.
In a bid to promote the products and services born out of the Adwumawura program, President Mahama announced plans to host an annual fair and exhibition – a stage for beneficiaries to showcase their achievements.
Encouraging international collaboration, the President called upon global partners to engage with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme to maximize the impact of the Adwumawura initiative.
Minister George Opare Addo, responsible for Youth Development and Empowerment, echoed President Mahama’s commitment to nurturing a new cadre of 10,000 entrepreneurs each year, asserting that the Adwumawura program heralds a dawn of opportunity for enterprising youth in Ghana.
To register for this transformative initiative, ensure to visit the NEIP portal or seek assistance from district and municipal assemblies and Youth Employment Agency offices.
