The Ministry of Health has on Monday June 16, 2025, inaugurated two distinct board members to oversee the operations of Ghana Health Service and the Ho Teaching Hospital.

During the inauguration held in Accra at the Ministry, the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, cautioned that the integration of the board should not merely be perceived as ceremonial but as a significant responsibility.

“This event signifies a renewal of leadership within two crucial institutions, representing a distinguished group of Ghanaians who have answered the call to serve. This serves as both a recognition of your capabilities and a reminder of the substantial responsibilities that lie ahead when discussing healthcare delivery in Ghana, we refer to three primary pillars: the teaching hospitals, the track facilities, and the Ghana Health Service.”

According to him, the government has prioritized family welfare at the heart of the national development agenda. “We are implementing bold reforms, including the expansion of free primary healthcare services, aimed at enhancing lives and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind.

Hon. Akandoh highlighted the significance of each role, emphasizing that it is pivotal, and encouraged each member of the new Council to apply their skills, integrity, and commitment to promote transparency, enhance monitoring and supervision, and advocate for the Ghanaian patient.

“Remember, your work directly influences whether individuals leave longer, healthier, and more dignified lives,” he emphasized.

However, regarding the Ho Teaching Hospital, Hon. Mintah Akandoh stressed that the entire Teaching Hospital is a place where care and knowledge are shared, and where research and future health professionals are developed.

“This dual role is essential, as teaching is a responsibility that enhances clinical services, promotes innovation, supports health research, and establishes the hospital as a center for training doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.

You are embarking on this mission in a region that requires accessible, modern, and responsive healthcare services.

He elaborated further that the region, and indeed all Ghanaians, rely on the hospital not merely as a treatment facility but as a center for interdisciplinary collaboration, progressive education, and leadership in patient-centered care.

“As a ministry, we will fulfill our responsibilities by establishing suitable policy frameworks, investing in infrastructure, and supporting the development of human resources,” he stated emphatically.

He urged the leadership to transform the investment into tangible impacts, measurable improvements, and sustained progress.

In his speech, the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Frank Raji, emphasized that government institutions thrive when they are guided by individual integrity and a profound commitment to public service and organizational growth.

You were carefully selected for your expected experience and the unique value you are anticipated to bring to the team, and your appointment is both a recognition of your capabilities and a call to action, he noted.

“We are confident that your contributions will influence strategic direction, uphold institutional values, and strengthen stakeholder collaboration,” Mr. Raji

He added that the Ministry will therefore rely on their leadership to ensure that the goals remain aligned with national development priorities and global best practices.
