At least six persons were confirmed dead in a motor accident on the Accra-Winneba highway at Gomoa Dominase in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The victims who were returning from a funeral met their untimely death when two vehicles smashed into each other.
An eyewitness told 3news.com the gory accident happened on Saturday evening around 6:10 pm.
“It was a head-on collision and people died on the spot,” he recounted.
According to the eyewitness, a Hyundai Grace with registration number GX-2894-17 dangerously overtook a trailer and ran into an oncoming Sprinter bus, GS 870-12, killing five people on the spot.
Another person died later on admission at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist hospital
The Sprinter bus was traveling from Winneba junction to Accra whilst the Hyundai Grace was from Kasoa heading towards Winneba.
Chief Inspector Emmanuel Kunadu, of the Dominase Police Station, said 18 people sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment with the help of the Ghana National Fire Service.
The bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the hospital’s morgue, awaiting autopsy.
