Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong loses Bunkprugu skin

The Judicial Committee of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs has unanimously ruled that the enskinment of Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong as Bunkpurgu Na-ba is a violation of the rotation system of the Bunkpurgu skin.

The Committee has also directed him to submit all chieftaincy regalia to the petitioner.

The Bunkpurgu chieftaincy issues started in 2007 after the death of chief Lanbong Taankpan.

This follows the enskinment of Abuba Nasinmong as Bunkpurgu Na-ba by the Nayiri Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, who doubles as his maternal uncle.

The Jamong Royal Family led by Chamba Seidu Konlan and Chamba Libaar – all deceased – petitioned the Nayiri Abdulai Mahami Sheriga and two others for the enskinment of Abuba Nasinmong as Bunkpurgu Na-ba.

However, the enskinment process did not go down well with the Jamong Royal Family who petitioned the Northern Regional House of Chiefs.

Findings of facts presented by the Committee chaired by the Susong Lana established that Bunkpurgu skin is patrilineal and rotational and that the enskinment of Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong as Bunkpurgu Na-ba is a violation of the rotational system.

Before presenting the judgment on behalf of the Committee, Counsel Alhaji Yakubu Abdul Fatawu appealed to the parties to let peace reign amongst them.

“It is our sincere hope that this judgement will end the whole process and give birth to peace in the Bunkpurgu traditional area.”

He further appealed to them to seek redress rather than picking arms against any party who will pick arms as a result of the judgment.

“Our judgement today is based on the evidence you all presented before us.”

The Counsel on behalf of the committee ruled that the reliefs the petitioners are seeking from the committee to nullify the enskinment of Abuba Nasinmong as the chief of Bunkpurgu has been granted.

The Committee also ruled Abuba Nasinmong should return all the royal regalia to the Nayiri.

He also directed the Jamong Royal Family to get a successor to be presented to and enskinned by the Nayiri.

Counsel of the petitioners James Owusu Mensah expressed gratitude to the committee.

He said his clients will follow due processes to get a candidate appointed.

The defeated chief, Abuba Nasinmong, said he will confer with his lawyers on the way forward.
