Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has accompanied former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to commiserate with the people of Dagbon following the passing of the late Overlord, Ya-Naa Abukari II.
Dr Amin Adam said it was an honour to accompany the former President to the palace, where Nana Akufo-Addo called on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa, to extend his condolences over the death of the late Ya-Naa.
Reflecting on the visit in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 29, Dr Amin Adam described the occasion as “both humbling and deeply appreciated”, particularly as he witnessed the former President pay tribute to the enduring bond he shared with the late Overlord.
According to the Karaga MP, the visit also offered an opportunity to recognise the significant relationship between Nana Akufo-Addo and the Dagbon Kingdom.
He said the people of Dagbon would continue to remember the former President’s contribution to the peaceful restoration of unity in the Kingdom, particularly in connection with the process that culminated in the enskinment of Ya-Naa Abukari II.
“Indeed, Dagbon will always remember President Akufo-Addo’s role in the peaceful restoration of unity in the Kingdom, as it honours the legacy and reign of the late Overlord,” Dr Amin Adam said.
His comments come against the backdrop of the longstanding appreciation in Dagbon for Nana Akufo-Addo’s role in the peace process.
The late Ya-Naa Abukari II himself previously expressed gratitude to Nana Akufo-Addo for his contribution to peace in the Kingdom.
