When you misinterpret the performance of the economy, it is just a matter of time before the tax efforts of the economy present counter-narratives. This will appear to be the case for the managers of the Ghanaian economy over the last decade, a situation which could further worsen by the time the fiscal outturn of 2020 is released in the first quarter of 2021. The tax effort of an economy – measured by relating the actual tax collections to some credible indicator of taxable capacity usually gross national income at market prices, captures the ‘efforts of the economy to support…
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has assured assembly members that the next NDC administration will work closely with them to deepen their role in governance. Mr Mahama says as the first point of contact for the resolution of many issues in electoral areas, assembly members require support from government to enable them effectively discharge their enormous responsibilities. Addressing a meeting with the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) at his office in Accra, the former president observed that not only do assembly members attend to the day-to-day needs of the people, but they also…

President Donald Trump has announced he is banning the Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok in the US. He told reporters he could sign an executive order as early as Saturday. US security officials have expressed concern that the app, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, could be used to collect the personal data of Americans. TikTok has denied accusations that it is controlled by or shares data with the Chinese government. The fast-growing app has up to 80 million active monthly users in America and the ban would be a major blow for ByteDance. “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning…
Low key political rallies and gatherings are expected to dominate due to the coronavirus pandemic. The political trend has slowed because the norm in Ghana has been large crowd for aspirants to address them on policies and achievements. But not much of this trend will be seen because currently there is a ban on public gathering involving huge numbers. Whether Covid-19 or not, voting will take place on December 7, 2020 and so political parties would embark on campaigns virtually or physically but observe the health safety protocols. Those who cannot join the campaign virtually and physically must also know…
Boxing world champions, football world champions, record African football title winners, Olympic medalists, Commonwealth Games medalists, you name it, at one point in time or the other, Ghanaians have held these accolades. In sixty-three years of nationhood, in spite of the political turbulence in a large part of its history, Ghana has quite a bit to be proud of in the sporting sphere. Among the older folk, very few could forget the joy David Kotei “Poison” brought to this country when he became our first boxing world champion. From him down to perhaps the greatest African boxer of all time…

Former President John Dramani Mahama has descended heavily on member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, for criticising his campaign poster. Mr Otchere-Darko had criticised the inscriptions on the poster, calling on “whoever is leading NDC campaign publicity” to do a better work. “Clearly, incompetetence can be both chronic & incurable, transcending electoral cycles,” Mr Otchere-Darko wrote. But Mr Mahama did not take kindly to this as he tweeted: “Clearly some psychosis can lead to unrestrained obsession.” He sarcastically referred to Gabby Otchere-Darko as “our PM”. https://twitter.com/JDMahama/status/1289092170956386304?s=20 Source: 3news.com|Ghana
