The Minority in Parliament is accusing the Nana Addo administration of attempts to collapse the local car dealership business in favour of foreign interests. According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs, the recently passed Customs Amendments Act, aside tax holidays for foreign automobile companies to assemble vehicles locally, allows importation of already assembled vehicles without paying duties. Swiss special prosecutor, Stefan Keller, has opened a criminal case against FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The case will investigate the FIFA boss’ dealings with Swiss attorney general, Michael Laubner. Laubner, who resigned from his position last week, had a concealed meeting with Infantino and the Chief prosecutor of the Upper Valais, Rinaldo Arnold in June, 2017 and no notes were taken during the meeting. The meeting took place while the Swiss attorney general was investigating  corruption allegations associated with FIFA. Donald Trump has suggested November’s presidential election be postponed, saying increased postal voting could lead to fraud and inaccurate results. He floated a delay until people could “properly, securely and safely” vote. There is little evidence to support Mr Trump’s claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud. US states want to make postal voting easier due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Senior High Schools (SHSs) which have recorded cases of coronavirus in the last 14 days will have vacations for second-year students delayed. This is to allow health officials assess and trace contacts of cases before allowing the students to go home. Already, the second-year Gold Track students who went to school together with the final-years are almost done with their academic work. The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has confirmed that there will be no registration across the nation on Friday, July 31. The day has been declared a statutory holiday as a result of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim celebration of the sacrifice Ibrahim made to Allah as a sign of obedience. Ghana has recorded 14 more deaths from the coronavirus disease. In the latest update given by the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Thursday, July 30, the deaths have risen from 168 to 182. It jumped to 175 by the update on the Service’s website before the Director General announced at the Ministry of Information’s bi-weekly press meeting that the deaths are now 182.
