Founder and leader of United Progressive Party (UPP) Kwasi Addai Odike has advised former First Lady and wife of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings to pull out of next month’s general elections. Good news emanating from Ghana’s public procurement system is rare. At least in the recent past, corruption and financial waste has riddled a good number of deals the office has been engaged in. While we still fight against this seeming norm, it is of troubling concern when international contracts are handled by the State in a manner that results in unnecessary legal disputes and judgements debts. The Accra Intelligent Traffic Management Project (AITMS) is yet another case where the country is being ripped off, albeit an avoidable one. The purpose of the AITMS project, originally signed in 2012 by the…

A prominent ally of Donald Trump has urged him to drop his efforts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the US presidential election. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie called the president’s legal team a “national embarrassment”. President Trump has refused to concede the election, making unsubstantiated claims of widespread electoral fraud. Many Republicans have supported his legal efforts but a small but growing number have broken ranks. On Saturday Mr Trump suffered a major blow in Pennsylvania, after a judge dismissed a lawsuit from the Trump campaign seeking to invalidate millions of mail-in votes in the battleground…
Germany’s chancellor has raised concerns about the world’s poorest securing access to Covid-19 vaccines. Angela Merkel was speaking at a G20 summit which saw leaders promise a fair distribution of jabs. But Mrs Merkel warned progress was slow, saying she would raise the matter with global vaccine alliance GAVI. “We will now speak with GAVI about when these negotiations will begin because I am somewhat worried that nothing has been done on that yet,” she said. Her comments come as the US announced that some Americans could be vaccinated as early as 11 December. The G20 summit of the world’s…
