A man has died of the coronavirus in the Philippines in the virus’s first confirmed fatality outside China. The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan, in Hubei province, where the virus was first detected. He appeared to have been infected before arriving in the Philippines, the World Health Organization said. More than 300 people have died in the outbreak so far, the vast majority from Hubei, and more than 14,000 people have been infected. It has come to light that all Ghanaian students in China are safe from the deadly coronavirus. This was made known after a crunch 4-hour meeting held on Wednesday, January 29 between the Embassy of Ghana and China executives of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). The students, however, complained of shortage of nose masks and hand sanitisers, which have prevented most of them from going out to buy victuals. About six persons are feared dead in an accident at Gomoa Odumase near Essuehyia in the Central Region. The accident occurred on Saturday at about 8:00am It involved an articulated truck heading towards Takoradi and an Accra-bound Toyota Hiace Mini Bus loaded with passengers. The Accra Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has rejected reports that it did not send security detail to the one-year commemorative durbar of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.
