Ghana’s economy has grown by the double since 2017 when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became president, the Minister of Finance has said. He said economic growth rebounded strongly from 3.4% in 2016 to an average of 7% under the Akufo-Addo-led government while year-on-year inflation has fallen from 15.4% in December, 2016 to 7.6%. Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena Dapaah says government has resolved to re-engineer landfill sites across the country as part of its sanitation drive. A river near the inter-Korean border has turned red after being polluted with blood from pig carcasses. South Korean authorities had culled 47,000 pigs in an attempt to halt the spread of African swine fever (ASF). Heavy rains caused blood to flow from a border burial site into a tributary of the Imjin River. African swine fever is highly contagious and incurable, with a near zero survival rate for infected pigs, but it is not dangerous to humans. The National Labour Commission (NLC) says the strike declared by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) is illegal. On Tuesday, November 12, JUSAG declared that it is embarking on an indefinite strike starting Wednesday, November 13 over members’ salary review.
