Ten Benin youth players and former football federation president Anjorin Moucharafou have been handed prison sentences for age cheating. A Cotonou court found them guilty of lying about their ages, which saw them failing MRI tests in Niger. September’s failed tests saw Benin disqualified from last month’s regional qualifying tournament in Niger for the 2019 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The players were given six-month prison sentences with five months suspended. Turkey has given its first official statement on how it believes writer Jamal Khashoggi was killed, saying he was immediately strangled. The statement follows weeks of media reports about the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October. Turkey has yet to provide evidence. Chief prosecutor Irfan Fidan said a meeting with his Saudi counterpart on Monday yielded “no concrete results”. Saudi Arabia has not commented on the meeting. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II embarked on an inspection tour of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Wednesday barely 10 days after students vandalized property to protest claimed brutalities against them. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Chancellor of the University, was out of the country when ensuing incidents from the students’ action occurred. India has unveiled the world’s tallest statue, which cost 29.9bn rupees (£330m; $430m) to build. The 182m (600ft) high structure in the western state of Gujarat is a bronze-clad tribute to independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The first of the 11 victims of the US shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh have now been laid to rest. Hundreds paid their respects on Tuesday at the funerals of brothers Cecil and David Rosenthal and Jerry Rabinowitz, who were killed on Saturday. World football-governing body Fifa has handed former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi a life ban from all football-related activities. The activities have to do with “administrative, sports or any other” at both national and international levels.
