Football Kenya Federation (FKFF) has announced the Harambee Starlets have replaced Equatorial Guinea at the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The eight-team tournament is set to kick off in Ghana on 17 November. Two-time winners Equatorial Guinea beat Kenya 3-2 on aggregate in the final round of qualifying before the Kenyans protested over the eligibility of six players. Three telecommunication companies have announced an upward review of the cost of their services, beginning Thursday, November 1. This comes in the wake of amendments to Acts 970, 971 and 972 as announced in the mid-year budget review presented by Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta in July. The case involving a former Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has been adjourned to December 14. This was after counsel for the former DG, Ernest Thompson, prayed for more time to peruse the evidence the state intends to use against his client in court. There was a heated exchange on Wednesday during a meeting between the Normalization Committee and journalists in Accra. It was the first official meeting since the membership of the Committee was unveiled by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) and FIFA. Turkish investigators have entered the residence of the Saudi consul in Istanbul to gather more evidence about the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi. Turkish officials suspect the Saudi journalist was killed during a visit to the consulate building on 2 October. The consul, Mohammed al-Otaibi, flew back to Riyadh on Tuesday. He denies knowing what happened to Mr Khashoggi. However, a Turkish newspaper says Mr Otaibi can be heard in purported audio recordings of Mr Khashoggi’s death. The Cuban government and its people are calling for the lifting of the United States blockade on the island nation’s economic, financial and commercial activities. At a media briefing in Accra, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez said they will on October 31 present a draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for lifting of the blockade imposed on them by the US. A team from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) visited the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Tuesday to inspect facilities with barely a month to the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. Ghana is set to host the 11th edition with Accra and Cape Coast as the host cities.
