Ghana’s senior national men’s soccer team, the Black Stars, continued their pre-AFCON training on Tuesday at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence. The team held its first training on Monday, June 3 with 23 players. On Day 2, the players came out full-circle to keep in shape for the tournament, which begins on Friday, June 21. The Minority in Parliament has given the clearest indication yet that it will challenge the trial of Member for Bawku Central Constituency by an Accra High Court. Mahama Ayariga is standing trial at the Court for tax evasion and procurement allegations – at the instance of the Special Prosecutor – but circumstances that led to his subpoena on Tuesday made the Minority mull other options. The Ghana Police Service has been commended for the “swiftness” with which they arrested the youth who forced out the District Chief Executive of Krachi West Assembly, Douglas Osei-Nti. The police announced last Thursday that five persons namely Mathias Banyolonso, Sarfo Sunkwa, Amos Eseikor, Tijani Shaibu and Murtala Yakubu have been arrested for causing the commotion. They have been charged for assault by imprisonment, offensive conduct and causing unlawful damage, among others. The funeral of former Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes has been held in his home town of Utrera, Seville. The former Sevilla captain died in a car crash aged 35 on Saturday, while a relative was also killed. The Ashanti Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is up in arms against the police after a planned demonstration against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) was stopped. The NDC had planned the demonstration against the limited registration exercise scheduled to take off on Friday, June 7. The demonstration was scheduled to be held on Monday, June 3. Ghana’s Energy Ministry has started a discussion with its Ivorian counterpart on the possibility of the two countries building a gas pipeline. The project conceived by Ghana’s Energy Ministry is part of efforts to ensure stable power in the two countries.
