Former UBS trader Kweku Adoboli has expressed disgust at the conditions he found himself in while in detention at Harmondsworth immigration removal centre. According to him, the dystopian conditions at the centre have affected his humanity including his mental health. “I have utter disdain for this environment, an emotion I have not experienced before; not even in prison,” the ‘rogue trader’ wrote in the Guardian after a judge ruled he should be bailed over the week. Kweku Adoboli, who has spent his life in the UK since living there at 12, spent 36 days at the immigration centre following a…
Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum scored as the Netherlands won to send Germany to the bottom of Nations League Group A1. Van Dijk reacted first to head in from close range after Ryan Babel had headed against the crossbar following Memphis Depay’s right-wing corner. Depay added a second late on from a quick counter-attack after being set up by Quincy Promes. Wijnaldum sealed the win in injury time with a low shot into the bottom corner. Joachim Low’s Germany, who won the World Cup in 2014, have now only won three of their past 12 matches. They…
Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo says there are no vigilante groups within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He stated, however, that the party may be forced to form such groups if the current operations of pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante groups are not kept in check. He was speaking on TV3’s New Day on Saturday. But his assertion comes as a surprise to many considering the recent unveiling of The Hawks by a former minister of state, Joseph Yammin, who lost the Ashanti Region NDC Chairmanship race. The muscular men, wearing black T-shirts, guarded the…

In what many are finding a surprising turn of events, hiplife king Sarkodie has asked his followers to download the newly released album of dancehall king Shatta Wale. In a tweet on Saturday, when the album is scheduled to be launched, Sarkodie posted the iTunes link of the song. https://twitter.com/sarkodie/status/1051019167183331329 Before this, however, the multiple award-winning hiplife artiste had released a song to implicitly lash out at Shatta Wale though said to advise him. National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot deny knowledge of the existence of vigilante groups such as Delta Forces within its fold. The former minister of state said it will be a blatant lie for any person to deny the fact that groups such as the Delta Forces, Invisible Forces and Kandahar Boys are backed by the NPP. Dr Pelpuo’s remarks come in the wake of the denial of the formation of the groups by NPP’s Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoah. Mr Asamoah, who is also…
The Black Stars on Friday thrashed Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko 3-0 in a friendly game played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Abdul Majeed Waris, Christian Atsu and Emmanuel Boateng were the goal scorers. The match was put together to keep the senior national team busy after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) cancelled the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back qualifiers with Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) had failed to meet a FIFA deadline to reinstate its old executives. Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah began the game with Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan in…
The head of the United Nations has demanded “the truth” over the disappearance of the Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Secretary General Antonio Guterres told the BBC he feared such disappearances would happen more regularly and become a “new normal”. Mr Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government, vanished on 2 October after visiting its consulate in Istanbul. Saudi Arabia says accusations it ordered his killing there are “lies”. Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, in quotes reported by the official Saudi Press Agency in Friday, said the kingdom was also keen to uncover “the whole…
Doctors’ use of Caesarean section to deliver babies has nearly doubled in 15 years to reach “alarming” proportions in some countries, a study says. Rates surged from about 16 million births (12%) in 2000 to an estimated 29.7 million (21%) in 2015, the report in the medical journal The Lancet said. The nation with the highest rate for using the surgery to assist childbirth is the Dominican Republic with 58.1%. Doctors say in many cases the use of the medical procedure is unjustified. Until recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggested that Caesarean section – or C-section – rates of…
