Former President John Dramani Mahama has justified his recent meeting with members of the diplomatic corps. Mr Mahama had met the corps on Wednesday and briefed them on what transpired during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election. The former leader had shown the foreign envoys videos of the violence, which has been under investigation by a Commission of Inquiry set up by the president, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo. But Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo had taken exception to the meeting, describing it as ”unpatriotic and shameful”. “It is shameful and hypocritical on the part of Mr Osafo-Maafo that he had the temerity to…
At points, Wednesday felt like a return to the old times at Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Good crowd, buzzing atmosphere, a Kotoko team that showed good spirit and a sense that football, these parts still means an incredible lot. In the wake of that crippling documentary Number 12, the sense sometimes has been that somehow, people would lose interest, that stadium visits won’t mean much to them again. There has always been the fear that interest in a sport built into our veins would wane overnight. Wednesday was evidence that it is not that simple. Midweek games are a difficult…
The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has expressed worry over the delay in the implementation of government’s industrial programmes. At its just ended National Council retreat held on February 6-7 in Accra, the AGI reckoned there is the need to step up dialogue with action “in order to gain more traction and wield more influence on policy makers in order to achieve the desirable level of industrialisation”. The retreat was held on the theme: ‘Transforming the Ghanaian Economy through Industrialisation’. It marked exactly 60 years since the Association was founded. AGI’s concerns come in the wake of agitations over government’s…
There is this iconic Vodafone Turkey Advert which won a lot of awards last year. It shows a sailor, perhaps a researcher, who gets a phone call at the same time he was trying to take the perfect picture of a giant Orca jumping out of water somewhere in the Arctic Circle. The ad is accompanied by the tagline line “Coverage Everywhere, Sorry”. A rare magical sight interrupted by a damn phone call. So as soon as the Kotoko players made their way to the Baba Yara Pitch for kick-off, Kumawood Star Bill Asamoah like most people in the Stadium…

Seven of the youth have since been arrested and sent to Accra for prosecution. Salaga violence: Seven suspects taken to Accra In a statement on Thursday, the Kpembewura…
Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered another Commons defeat after MPs voted down her approach to Brexit talks. MPs voted by 303 to 258 – a majority of 45 – against a motion endorsing the government’s negotiating strategy. The defeat has no legal force and Downing Street said it would not change the PM’s approach to talks with the EU. But Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn urged Mrs May to “admit her Brexit strategy has failed” and to come forward with a plan Parliament would support. The defeat came after the pro-Brexit European Research Group (ERG) of Conservative MPs announced it…

Parliament has absolved Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency Kennedy Ohene Agyapong of any wrongdoing in a contemptuous case brought before its Privileges Committee last year. Though the Committee’s report had found Mr Agyapong guilty of contempt and even recommended his suspension, he was asked to “go and sin more”. The report of the Committee was read by Chairman Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the First Deputy Speaker. It was followed by a heated debate, leading to a suspension of proceedings for at least an hour. Mr Agyapong rendered an apology to the House, insisting he did not refer…
