The Member of Parliament for Yunyoo Constituency in the Northern Region, Joseph Bipoba Naabu, has stated that Ghana is an independent country and even though it belongs to an international association, it should still act on the laws of its jurisdiction. According to him, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) is taking the wrong decision if it bans Ghana simply because of the refusal to withdraw the court case seeking to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA). “We should disregard FIFA, if they think they are above the laws of Ghana, we don’t need them,” he mentioned. Ghana’s football…
Drivers of members of Ghana’s Parliament have petitioned leadership of the House – particularly the Speaker – to take steps to improve their general conditions of service. According to them, most of their engagements have been by word of mouth from their employers. In the petition addressed to Speaker Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, the Association of Members of Parliament Chauffeurs of Ghana Association said they are demanding an increase in salaries to “help us to survive in the economy”. “Our services with our employers are not secured to the manner of our engagement,” the petition signed by General Secretary Farouk…
Chief Executive Officer of Rufftown Records Ricky Nana Agyeman, popularly known as Bullet, has indicated that his label will not be releasing any songs written by the late Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, known in showbiz as Ebony Reigns. In a press release on Tuesday, August 14, Rufftown Records said they are no longer interested in releasing unreleased songs of the 90’s Bad Gal, who passed away earlier this year in a road accident on the Accra-Sunyani highway. According to the record label, which now has Wendy Shay as Ebony’s replacement, it holds 60 per cent royalties of all of Ebony’s unreleased…
A major motorway bridge has collapsed near the Italian city of Genoa, leading to vehicles falling some 100m (328ft). Italian Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli said it was likely to be “an immense tragedy”, while police sources said at least 10 people had died. The head of the local ambulance service was quoted by one source as saying there were “dozens of dead”. Video footage appears to show one of the towers holding up the suspension bridge collapsing in stormy weather. The police linked it to what they called a violent cloudburst. The collapsed section had mostly fallen onto rail tracks…
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has given the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) a 72-hour ultimatum to release its share of the 80-month contribution, failure of which it will embark on strike. The teachers claim NPRA has turned itself into a custodian and a fund manager at the same time against the National Pensions Act, Act 766. “What is even more serious is that contributors go to NPRA for their benefits and NPRA rather refers the retirees back to the teacher unions for the payment of their benefits,” General Secretary David Ofori-Acheampong revealed on Tuesday while addressing journalists…

Merseyside Police confirmed in a tweet that the video had been passed to the “relevant department”. A spokesman for the Premier League club said they had alerted police after discussions with the player. They added that any follow-up action on the Egypt international would be dealt with “internally”. The video, which has been circulated on Twitter, appears to show the player, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season, using his phone while behind the…
An economist and a banking consultant, Dr. Richmond Nana Atuahene, says Pastor Mensa Otabil cannot insulate himself from the issues surrounding the dissolution of Capital Bank. If he does that, Dr Atuahene opined, it means there is no corporate governance. Football’s world-governing body, Fifa, has given Ghana up till Monday, August 27, 2018 to withdraw a High Court suit, which has since seen the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved. In a letter dated 13 August, 2018 and signed by Fifa’s Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, Ghana will be suspended if the suit is not withdrawn. “The suspension would be lifted only once the above-mentioned petition is withdrawn and FIFA is given written proof thereof.” The letter was addressed to Dr Kofi Amoah, the head of the Liaison Team set up to oversee reforms at the GFA. Kenyans on Twitter are discussing comments made by the governor of central Kiambu county about the demolition of buildings in wetland areas in the capital, Nairobi. Most people have concentrated on Ferdinand Waititu’s remarks that property built on riparian land should not be demolished – instead, owners should be allowed to redirect the flow of water. “I don’t support the ongoing demolitions. If your house is near a river, you should be allowed, at your expense, to divert it. Demolishing houses is not a solution,” Mr Waititu said in a speech. Former Minister of State in charge of Public and Private Partnership Alhaji Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo says President Nana Akufo-Addo’s directive that all appointees who want to join him should come in a bus and not use their private cars is not necessary but rather he should focus on the specific issue and bring along the ministers who are in charge of it. “I think that there are two sides to it,” he began, “first of all, is it the fact that it’s a necessity for any minister to follow the president or join him in the bus? The second one is…
