Amidst the rumpus over the filing fee for presidential aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), some of them have been accused of raining insults on the National Executive Committee (NEC). The Committee took the decision on Thursday, November 29 to peg the filing fee at GH¢400,000 for male aspirants and half of that for females. The disabled will pay GH¢150,000. There was anger among some persons living with disabilities (PWDs) on Monday when no official from the Ministry of Works and Housing turned up to receive their petition. The PWDs, all of whom are members of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, embarked on a peace walk to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons 2018. The news came following a decision by the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to disqualify Group F contenders Sierra Leone. Qatar has announced it is pulling out of the Opec oil producers’ cartel, just days before the group meets in Vienna. The Gulf state, which joined Opec in 1961, said it would leave the cartel in January and would focus on gas production. Qatar, the world’s biggest exporter of liquified natural gas, has been boycotted by some Arab neighbours over allegations that it funds terrorism. Campaigners have accused the Home Office of a lack of “decency” after it emerged dozens of people deported to Commonwealth countries have not been contacted by the Windrush task force. Ministers said “no specific attempt” had been made to approach 49 people deported to Ghana and Nigeria in 2017.
