Iago Aspas scored a stoppage-time equaliser – with the aid of VAR – as Spain scraped an unconvincing draw with Morocco to top Group B and secure a World Cup last-16 tie against hosts Russia. Youssef En Nesyri – who plays in Spain for Malaga – looked to have won it for Herve Renard’s side when he powered in a superb header from fellow substitute Faycal Fajr’s corner. But Aspas flicked in Dani Carvajal’s low cross to make it 2-2, with referee Ravshan Irmatov initially disallowing the goal before overturning the decision. Spain won the group on goals scored as…
Portugal progressed to the World Cup knockout stages after drawing with Iran in a game full of VAR controversy. Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty for Portugal and was shown a yellow card after a lengthy VAR review for a possible red card. Iran scored a late penalty, given after another video review, and almost snatched a winner in stoppage time which would have seen them not only go through at Portugal’s expense but also top the group, with Spain held to a 2-2 draw by Morocco. Ricardo Quaresma had put Portugal in front with a sensational goal at the end…
There has not been any curfew imposed on any area in the Greater Accra Region, police have stated. Besides, no traditional leader has the power to impose curfews, the state law enforcement agency added. This comes in the wake of an announcement in some parts of Accra that traders and residents should be indoors before 7:30pm on Monday. It is unclear who sanctioned the announcement but an out-broadcast van was seen in areas such as Mamprobi and Accra Central making the announcement during the day. But speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Monday, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, who is the…

The Chief Executive Officer of BEIGE, Mike Nyinaku, has confirmed that The BEIGE Bank(TBB), its universal banking subsidiary, is on course to meeting the Bank of Ghana’s GH¢400 million minimum capital requirement for universal banks by the end of 2018. “We have a gap of less than GH¢100million of the expected stated capital position required by the Central Bank and we will definitely meet this before the year ends,” Mr Nyinaku said. “It has been a difficult year for indigenous banks without a doubt and we know that anxiety amongst customers has led to some of them re-directing their businesses.…
West African Senior High School shoved aside Konongo-Odumase SHS and Kadjebi-Asato SHS on Monday to book a place in the quarter-final of the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz. WASS is one of the seeded schools for this year’s contest and their contestants – Tade Abdul Hameed and Arkoh Saahene – put up a sterling performance to justify that. They represented the school last year too – while in Form 2. The Ashanti Region school jumped to the lead in the first round, opening a two-point gap. But last year’s quarter-finalists showed their mettle in Round 2 to keep their…
