The Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region is exposing farmers to opportunities in oil palm production under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme. Facebook is being represented by its chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, while Twitter sent chief executive Jack Dorsey. As anticipated, Google did not show up. Former Bank of England governor Mervyn King, now Lord King, has blasted Brexit preparations as “incompetent”. The Brexit-supporting ex-governor said it “beggared belief” that the world’s sixth-biggest economy should be talking of stockpiling food and medicines. A South Carolina woman has been charged with murder after allegedly poisoning her husband by putting eyedrops into his water for several days. Lana Clayton, 52, was arrested weeks after her husband, Stephen Clayton, 64, was found dead at home. She was detained when a toxicology test discovered a chemical called tetrahydrozoline in his body. The substance is found in over-the-counter eyedrops and nasal sprays that are available without a prescription. Very little progress has been made in reducing levels of inactivity worldwide, experts have warned. A WHO report estimates that more than a quarter of people worldwide – 1.4 billion – are not doing enough physical exercise, a figure that has barely improved since 2001. Japan has been hit by its strongest typhoon in 25 years, causing at least six deaths and 160 injuries. Typhoon Jebi made landfall in western areas, bringing heavy rain and reports of winds up to 172km/h (107mph).
