Ghana’s Black Satellites booked a ticket to join seven other African U-20 sides for the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. Ghana’s 1-1 draw with their Beninois counterparts in Cotonou over the weekend was enough to see the national U-20 team through on a 4-2 aggregate win. Already, six teams had qualified through home-and-away encounters for the tournament to be hosted in Niger. Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Mali are among these six. The rest are Burundi and South Africa. Ghana and Benin, thus, battled for the final spot for the eight-team tourney and it was the three-time champions who…
Ghana’s Black Princesses finally bowed out of the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 win over New Zealand. Ruth Animah’s 75th minute strike was what gave the Princesses maximum points at the Stade Guy Piriou in Concarneau on Sunday. But Ghana had lost her two opening games in the tournament, first losing their opener 1-4 to France and later losing 0-4 to debutantes the Netherlands to make Sunday’s encounter a dead rubber. READ: Debutantes Netherlands thrash Ghana 4-0 in U-20 Women’s World Cup New Zealand, however, had a slim chance of going through, having drawn goalless with…
Wearing looser underpants could be a simple way for men to improve their sperm count and the hormones that control it, a US study suggests. In a study of 656 men, by researchers at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, in the US, boxer short wearers had a 25% higher sperm concentration than men in tight-fitting underwear. Cooler temperatures around the testicles could be the reason. Experts say this simple lifestyle change could improve men’s fertility. ‘Brain boosts sperm production’ Sperm production is known to be sensitive to temperatures above 34C (92F), which is why the testicles hang down…
Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew is reported to have agreed a season-long loan move to English Premier League side Crystal Palace from Swansea City. The Eagles are yet to confirm the deal but their French account on Twitter has already dropped a hint. https://twitter.com/fr_palace/status/1027495259075489793 There have been, however, concerns from some Eagles’ fans, fearing clubs the Ghanaian has joined in the past couple of years have been relegated. https://twitter.com/TSMTransfers/status/1027470168820207617 The latest deal, nonetheless, if completed on Thursday as…
Chelsea have agreed to sell Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, with midfielder Mateo Kovacic arriving on loan from the Spanish club. Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to arrive as his replacement for £71m – a world record for a goalkeeper. Debutantes Netherlands proved a contender to win this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following a 4-0 thrashing of perennial qualifiers Ghana on Wednesday. The result of the Group A game played at Vannes, France sends the Dutch girls into the quarter-final of the tournament. Ghana’s Black Princesses are all but out of the tournament, pending France’s second group game against New Zealand later on Wednesday. Though the Princesses began the day’s match the stronger of the two sides – probably owing to their 4-1 opening day loss to the hosts – it was the Dutch who made their few…
Unsuspecting persons in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis are falling prey to a new modus operandi that has been adopted by tricksters. Within a week, many persons have been robbed of varying sums of moneys and other valuable items including mobile phones, jewelry and laptops. With the new trick, the fraudsters pose as smartly dressed preachers with Holy Bible in their hands. They would cunningly approach their victims and request to share the word of God amidst some mysterious revelations about their personal lives and family. They would later ask the unsuspecting victims to either deposit whatever they are holding with them…
Women who have a heart attack are more likely to survive if they are treated by a female doctor in hospital, a major US study suggests. An analysis of 580,000 heart attack cases over 19 years found 13.3% died after being treated by a man compared with 12% who were cared for by a woman. Their chances were also improved if treated by a male doctor who had a lot of female colleagues in his team. One theory is that men may be worse at treating women, researchers said. Independent experts said more work was needed to see if the…
Former minister Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has rejected reports that he endorsed former president John Dramani Mahama during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Unity Walk in Aflao. He clarified on the ‘After Hours’ show on TV3 last Friday that he rather congratulated him for having joined the previous editions. “I congratulated him in Aflao for having led the ‘Unity Walks’, which I said would lead to the NDC winning power in 2020. “But some people felt that was an endorsement of him and I’ve said ‘No’, I was thanking him for leading the Unity Walks,” he stated. The aspiring leader of…
A leading war veteran in Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo, has branded ex-President Robert Mugabe a sell-out for endorsing his one-time foe Nelson Chamisa’s presidential bid in last week’s heavily disputed election, the state-linked Herald newspaper reports. Lazarus Nyoni – the provincial treasurer of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association – compared Mr Mugabe to the biblical Judas Iscariot for betraying Zanu-PF – the ruling party he helped form 55 years ago. The newspaper quoted Mr Nyoni as saying at the funeral of liberation war heroine Ketty Dube: “The highest level of deception is when a once-respected liberation war fighter…
