The Independent Power Generators, Ghana (IPGG) has commended the government for settlement of a portion of the arrears owed members. On Monday, January 12, government announced that the energy sector debt has been substantially settled. The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) says persistent insecurity and selective accountability have weakened public confidence in governance one year into President John Dramani Mahama’s presidency. The Government has announced that approximately $1.470 billion was paid at the end of last year to “rescue and restore Ghana’s energy sector”. According to a press release issued on Monday, January 12 by the Ministry of Finance, the payment covers the World Bank Partial Risk Guarantee, outstanding gas invoices owed ENI and Vitol for electricity generation as well as legacy debts to Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The debt on the partial risk guarantee (PRG) was $597.15 million, inclusive of interest, while that on the gas invoices was $480 million. A total of $393 million was settled with the IPPs.…
President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for Davos, Switzerland for the 2026 World Economic Forum. President Mahama left Accra on Sunday. According to a statement from the Presidency, Mr Mahama will stop over in the United Kingdom, where he will hold meetings with the Coordinators of the Accra Reset Initiative.
